Most of us have or will deal with the loss of a loved one at some point in our lives. You can never truly be prepared for the loss of a person that you hold so dearly to your heart; it can change your world. There is no right way to mourn and losing a loved one can be overwhelming with a mixture of emotions.
I felt called to write about the mourning process to support anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one.
I have partnered with Martha Burling a trusted Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor from my community. Martha has kindly provided 5 best tips on dealing with grief. Before we get started, here is a little background about Martha and the services she provides.
Martha Burling is a MBAP Registered Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor. She is a professional friend who provides a safe place to express your innermost feelings without feeling judged.
Martha specialises in Bereavement, Emotional Well-being Support, Addictions, Mental Health and is a trusted Counsellor in the community. She works closely with the Peace Hospice, SignPost and supports young people dealing with life challenges.
Below, Martha has kindly provided me with her best tips for dealing with grief.
1. No one can tell anyone how long they can mourn a loved one. Therefore, grieving has no time limit.
2. Never hide your feelings about your grief with anyone. It is alright to be upset.
3. Expressing your feelings around grief, lessens the impact of the grieving process.
4. Take each day as it comes and learn to be kind to yourself during the grieving journey, as no one has control over death no matter how much we may try.
5. The loss of your loved ones never truly goes away. By understanding the above areas, we learn ways of managing grief.
