I’m a mediation junkie...no for real, I love meditating and If you follow me on social media you will know how often I'm in a park somewhere soaking up the sun, when I can of course. Seeing as I live in gloomy England. Many people think that meditating is hard because calming your mind isn’t always easy. With so much noise from the outside world it can be hard to relax, let go and tune in with your body.
But here are my top tips for meditation for beginners;
1. Find a quiet place that you feel the most relaxed and safe.
This could be outside, in your home or a meditation room in a sacred building for example, a Temple or prayer room.
2. Choose a position that suits you, don’t worry about sitting or laying down like the meditation Guru's you see on TikTok.
As long as you're in a position that allows your muscles to relax. The key here is to feel comfortable.
3. Remove any distractions such as kids, friends, family, your partner, your phone.
Anything that will make you lose concentration.
4. Decide if you need further materials to help you to relax for example; calming music, Incense, a sound bowl, cushions, healing crystals, affirmations, sound frequency or your teddy.. haha whatever makes you happy.
5. Clear your mind from your worries of the day. You can do this by closing your eyes and finding your happy place.
Think of a place that makes you feel the most relaxed, for example a beautiful sandy beach.
6. The main focus is your breathing.
Inhaling deep breaths through your nose and exhaling out your mouth. Get in tune with your breathing to build a calming flow of rhythm.
7. Try and keep your body still focusing on your breathing and calming your mind for 10 minutes.
Now try this again the next day.
Try these steps everyday for just 10 minutes and gradually increase the timing of your meditation until it becomes a habit.
Once you get into the flow of it, you can start to Introduce different meditation techniques and positions to enhance your practice.
